Why have an organization for Webmasters and Web Specialists?

Answer: The IWA estimates that with the current growth of the Internet most companies will soon develop a presence on the Internet and will eventually require their own in-house web professional (webmaster) to manage the company's virtual operations. In any profession there is a need for standards of practice, professional development, and a medium for exchange. The IWA is ready to provide these professional necessities to its members.

How was the IWA founded?

Answer: The IWA originated from the work of Richard S. Brinegar, entrepreneur/business owner, while developing a web site for his real estate company in September of 1995. From this process, he organized a list of Internet resources that offered instruction on the design and marketing of web sites which he made available to the public as the "Internet Resource for Webmasters". Since that time, Richard has observed the meteoric evolution of the Internet and the webmaster profession, but recognized that this new profession would soon need to develop a set of standards of practice and ethical rules to guide it. With his past leadership experiences in a well known international professional organization and as a volunteer-elected member to a California college board of trustees, he has developed the framework of the International Webmasters Association.
