During the Christmas 1996 vacation period, several members of Countryside Baptist Church went to Mexico to serve in the village of Oaxaca. The mission team had two major goals: to build an adobe church for the believers within the village, and to share God's Word through daily interaction and a Vacation Bible School.

This is the team that went to Oaxaca. The group on the left is the Behal family. Brian and Pam Behal work with the Mission Aviation Fellowship and Brian flies mission flights into several of the small surrounding villages near Oaxaca. Mission trip Team
Making Adobe Bricks Since the only access to Oaxaca is by small plane, it is difficult to bring in heavy supplies for building a church. Here is one of the team members being taught the art of making Adobe bricks for the church.
This is the church as the walls start to come up. The foundation hadn't been completed prior to the team's arrival, so the walls didn't go up as quickly as planned. Church being raised
The walls at the end of the visit While the entire church was not able to be completed during the week-long visit, the team was able to provide much needed assistance in raising the walls. The villagers will finish the building by completing the walls and adding the roof.
The entire week was not spent only with the raising of the building. During the evenings, the team organized a Vacation Bible School for the villagers. The team had members who were fluent in Spanish and able to lead the group in Bible stories and songs. Vacation Bible School
Backpacks with puff paint What Vacation Bible School would be complete without some craft time? Just before leaving for Oaxaca, the team was presented with numerous blue denim back-packs and bottles of puff-paint.
Here is the main form of transportation in the mountains around Oaxaca. This mule is loaded with the wood that was used for the celebration "goat feast" at the end of the mission trip. Mode of transportation
